E.F. Barrett Power Station Repowering Project – Island Park Energy Center
National Grid is proposing to repower its E. F. Barrett Power Station located in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, New York. The proposed repowering will result in a new modern energy center at the Barrett Station through the installation of new, state-of-the art electric generators and removal of all existing electric generating equipment currently on the site. The new energy center will provide a more efficient and cost-effective facility to produce electricity while minimizing impacts on the surrounding communities and providing tax benefits into the future. The repowering, once approved by LIPA and licensed, will also provide numerous construction jobs during the construction period.
A pre-application conference to consider intervenor funding requests and to initiate the stipulations process will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. The conference will begin at 6:30 pm at Island Park Library, 176 Long Beach Road, Island Park, New York 11558.
The primary purpose of the pre-application conference is for the Judges to ask questions and to possibly make contemporaneous rulings on previously-filed requests for intervenor funds. A secondary purpose of the conference is to initiate the stipulations process.
For more information see the April 11 notice issued by the Siting Board on the Project Documents page of this site.
